Celebrity douche bags

Well everyone has been talking about it the whys and the what they should do now. At the footy John Terry was the topic..who cares, why are we surprised that some dumb fuck footballer with more money than sense cant keep his dick in his trousers. I think the sad thing is his wife seems to be the living embodiment of a door mat. Take him to the cleaners, cut up all his ghastly, bad taste, over priced clothes. Pour acid in his aftershave, over the bonnet of his car and anywhere else you fancy. Just do something other than simper and take him back. As you can tell I am not to be double crossed in love. I don´t care about Asley Cole, or Vernon (we all thought he was so nice) Kay. But I do vaguely care about the partners of these pathetic men, well more precisely I care about the message they send out to other women. Just empty their bank accounts and dump them.

The Girl who Played with Fire

Second book in the Millennium trilogy and this time Lisbeth Salander is the star of the show. The plot gallops along and has more twists and turns than the average race track. Not too keen on the recap bits from the previous novel but I guess necessary for some readers.
We get to learn why Salander is as she is and come to love her even more in this book. I must say as a fan of Wallander, English and Swedish versions this startling new character is a breath of fresh air to crime detection. Larsson has that unique ability found in some men to able to write extremely well the thoughts and feelings of his women characters. I can only think of one other, Sebastian Faulks, who has the same ability but obviously in a quite different genre.
They are not preachy books but they do touch on themes close to Larsson´s heart namely the oppression and exploitation of women, racism and corruption in the state.
Great stuff, off to start number three, The Girl who Kicked the Hornets´Nest.

A jolly good read

If you have n´t heard there´s a new kid on the block..Stieg Larsson and his Millennium Trilogy. Trouble is he went and died unexpectedly just after handing in the manuscripts for 3 crime novels, with ideas and notes for up to 7 more.
In death as well as life he has caused quite a stir. Steig Larsson was a political activist and lived under the constant threat of death from right wing extremists. He was a life long anti fascist campaigner and one of the founders and editor in chief, until his death, of Expo Foundation in Sweden. Expo was set up to counteract the growth of extreme right wing politics among the young people of Sweden.
The first book in the trilogy is called The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo and introduces us to the hero and heroin of the books. Namely Lisbeth Salander a feisty, slightly dysfunctional young women who has a photographic memory and a talent for computer hacking and Mikael Blomkist a campaigning journalist with a lively sexual appetite.
I´m not going to say anything about the plot as its a crime detection novel and to say too much would spoil the fun of reading it. I will say its a tightly written novel with some harrowing passages reminiscent in parts of a horror movie. Its also a great piece of writing for placing a young women at the forefront of the action and excitement. Steig Larsson allows us to see his characters reading other famous detectives such as Sara Paretsky who also had a female character to be reckoned with.
It is as I say a jolly good read and I´m now going to start The Girl who Played with Fire, book 2 in the trilogy.

Its over

Its that horrible time between Christmas and New Year.
A bit like after the death but before the funeral.
People sit around with nothing to do or say.
I hate this bit.
I have been sick this year, not like me at all, a real ¨shit I must lie down and be ill¨ sort of ill.
The daughter brought back a horrid little bug and kindly shared it around.

Ho ho ho!

Have just read my daughters most recent blog, where she is extolling all things Christmasy. You were not raised by Elves it was ME, I am that Elf.
Have started to record all the films on Sky that mention Christmas...It will be soon be time to put the Christmas CD´s in the car. Ho Ho Ho its so funny cos the kids hate it. Going to buy Bob Dylan´s Christmas CD this year to add to the collection, now that has to be a cool CD!
I will start to weep if I watch Love Actually..cos I have a romanticised version of London at Christmas playing in a loop in my head. Marbella sucks at Christmas! Bloody hell the Spanish don´t even have it on December 25th, they have to wait for the 3 kings in January.

Raining in my heart

So, so sad had to say a final goodbye to my lovely, sweet natured little cat today. It has been a long, lonely twenty four hours. Cradling an old friend, listening to her laboured breath, not wanting to give her up.
Outside the weather has mimicked my mood, cold and desolate.
Fifteen years of purring, never far away, soft and velvety.
I love and miss you Lulu.
